My son, BabyCakes, loves to be in the carrier. In fact,
lately it’s been his favorite place to nap. We recently moved from Boston to
downtown Minneapolis and using the carrier is often the best way to get around
a busy city. However, being in Minnesota I know cold days are just around the
corner and I fear our outdoor exploring will come to a frozen halt.
That’s where the babyWAWL comes in handy. Actually the
creators of babyWAWL are Minnesota mamas! The babyWAWL is a simple but genius
solution to the problem of keeping your little one warm while babywearing on
a chilly day. It is a fleece lined panel of gor-tex® with zippers on either
side, that is designed to extend your jacket around your baby while a carrier.
crisp morning to tray it out. Luckily the weather cooperated and we wore the
babyWAWL to our local farmers market. First I needed to find a jacket that had
a zipper that was compatible with the babyWAWL, which has a 5 VS zipper. I must
say before getting the babyWAWL I had never heard of a 5 VS zipper. Initially I
wanted to use my windbreaker; however its zipper was too small for the
babyWAWL. Since then I’ve learn that this particular jacket uses a size 3
zipper. Luckily my favorite fleece has size 5 zipper so we were good to go!
(Later I found that my winter coat also has a compatible zipper.)
to my jacket while I wore BabyCakes. He had no trouble getting us all cozied
up! (I also had no problem attaching the babyWAWL when I tried it on my own
later.) All snuggled up, BabyCakes napped comfortably while we strolled through
the farmers market. When the morning began to heat up I simply removed the
babyWAWL and stored it in our grocery sack without needing wake my sleepy boy. The
ease of attaching and detaching the babyWAWL makes it the perfect solution to
the varying temperatures of a typical fall day.
jackets. The babyWAWL’s panel is large enough to fit the length of both my
jackets and my husband’s jackets… and my hubby is 6’5.” Also the panel is
shaped so that it comes in at the bottom of a jacket, keeping BabyCake’s feet
warm, and flares open at the top, allowing room for the widest part of the
mama in a colder climate. My only caution would be to check the zipper size of
your jacket(s) before purchasing. You can also contact the people at babyWAWL
via their website and they will help you determine if your favorite jacket’s
zipper is compatible. The babyWAWL is a nice option for everything from a nice
fall stroll to trudging through snowy day.
